Hannes Gerhardt is a professor of human geography at the University of West Georgia, specializing in political and economic geography.
A recurring theme in his work is the “geographical imaginary” – that is, the ways we imagine places and spatial interactions to be, and how these imaginings shape important decision-making.
Recently, his research focus has been on the impact of digital technologies on work and ideas of property; the intersection of “value” and money; and pathways to establishing non-capitalist forms of economic production – the latter of which is the subject of a book he is currently writing.
